Pickering has a public swimming pool, tennis courts, "Flamingo Land" zoo and theme park, interior bowls, North Yorkshire Moors Railway with spectacular steam train journeys through moor and forest, and all the amenities of a country market town. There are Markets at Pickering (Mondays), Kirkbymoorside (Wednesdays), Guisborough (Thursdays & Saturdays), Helmsley (Fridays), and Malton (Saturdays).
Seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby, old fishing villages at Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes & Runswick bay, with Saltburn-by-the-sea and it's restored pier.

Castle Howard and Nunnington, Helmsley Castle and a host of good country pubs and restaurants in the nearby market towns and pretty villages.
Television and Film.
The area has been the focus of a number of film and television series of late. In the “Harry Potter” series, “Hogwarts” railway station was filmed at Goathland. The station also features in the Television series “Heartbeat”, as do other stations on the NYMR. “Aidensfield” in “Heartbeat” is the village of “Goathland”. The offspring of “Heartbeat”, “The Royal” is filmed at Scarborough. Many of the area's villages and farms play a part a number of other films and television series, showing that the area has a great wealth of beauty that appeals the film and television industry alike.
Roman Camp Just to the East of Cropton village, is "Cawthorne Camp", where the Romans enjoyed a spectacular view over the valley. Further North is Wheeldale moor, where the remains of the Roman road that connected to Cawthorne camp can still be seen.
Rosedale Abbey,
